What is Whisker?
Whisker is a Windows application for live bilingual interpretation. It shows Native transcription and Target translation as a visual memory aid while the interpreter controls routing, correction, and meaning.
Is Whisker a meeting recorder?
No. Whisker is designed for live interpreting, not for building a conversation archive. Session content is temporary working state rather than the center of the product.
Does my audio leave my computer?
Not when Local transcription and local translation are selected. In Cloud mode, audio is sent only to the provider you explicitly choose and is handled under that provider's terms and privacy policy.
Which providers are supported?
Whisker supports Local whisper.cpp ASR, Soniox realtime Cloud, Deepgram Nova-3 realtime transcription, and Speechmatics Melia 1 realtime preview. Provider capabilities and terms can change independently of Whisker.
What hardware does Local require?
Local ASR requires a compatible Vulkan-capable GPU, driver, and Whisper model. Vulkan support alone does not guarantee professional realtime performance; if Local is unsuitable, choose a Cloud provider explicitly.
Can I use Cloud transcription with local translation?
Yes. Confirmed Cloud Native text can be translated locally through Whisker Translator. Provider-native translation is an explicit option only when the selected provider supports it.
How does the paid license work?
The current Whisker 1.0 contract is a USD 79 perpetual Regular license, or USD 59 for the first 50 Founders Edition licenses, with a seven-day trial and one active Windows PC per paid entitlement.
Can I rely on the generated text without review?
No. Transcription and translation can be inaccurate, incomplete, or delayed. Whisker is an assistive tool, so professional judgment and verification remain essential—especially in legal, medical, emergency, or financial settings.
